My demi-pair life started today. I was shown around the house and given an explanation of the work, and today I did the laundry and cleaned the bathroom. Unlike au pairs, the work seems to involve a lot of housework. I slept a little during the day and met their child for the first time in the afternoon. We played with Plarail, practiced the piano, and watched TV. I was happy that we were able to ask each other questions and talk over dinner. My host parents also told me stories about their time as students and part-time workers in Australia. Apparently, it took a really long time for them to obtain permanent residency and citizenship, and I realized that they must have been through a lot. Tomorrow is my first trial. I’m nervous, but I want to do my best.
